Raptor Lane:
In 2018, the Town of Dorset was able to complete the bargain sale purchase of 308 acres off Route 30 in Dorset. The lands are located off Raptor Lane, just north of JK Adams Company. The lands range from flat to hilly and include 8 permitted and subdivided lots.
In 2019, the Dorset Selectboard appointed the Raptor Lane Steering Committee. The purpose of the Committee is to review options and develop a plan for possible future uses of the property. This project represents an interesting opportunity for Dorset, and the Town is excited about how this great asset could help the future of Dorset.
Starting in 2020 the Town partnered with Northshire Area Trail Systems to build nearly 10 miles of mountain bike trails, now known as the Raptor Lane Trails. The biking and hiking trail improvements are located on around 166 acres of the total 308 acres. This trail work is still active, with a new trail being constructed summer 2026.
Housing -
After the pandemic the real estate market in Dorset and all of Vermont was greatly impacted. Values increased substantially and inventory became very scarce. This has had a lasting impact on the Community and the ability of working families and seniors to make Dorset their home.
During 2026 the Town worked with Community Scale to commission a Dorset Housing Market Report. The document reviewed the need for housing and the demand for housing. This report will be vital to the community discussion around what types of units and how many units make sense for Raptor Lane.
